(Library) SYRAH 2009 Estate Owl Hill Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley
$ 87.00
Tasting Notes:
Deep dark purple. Bittersweet chocolate, mole, dark tart cherry fruit, cassis, cinnamon, black pepper. Dense tannin and black fruit structure.
The Grape: Noble Syrah was originally perfected in the Rhone River Valley of France. More ancient origins are speculated to be a cross between two now obscure varieties. The grape is very dark in color and when freshly crushed emits floral aromas. The vine is very vigorous and benefits from growing on rocky hillsides.
The Vineyard: This wine comes exclusively from Frick's Estate Owl Hill Vineyard; Syrah was planted here in 1988. This tiny vineyard’s ground is rock, gravel and clay from decomposed Dry Creek Conglomerate soil. In this soil the vines have very low vigor and they produce a limited crop with distinctive, full, rich and classic Northern Rhone character.
The Wine: Dry, earthy European in style with black fruit and dry tannin. Classic elegant French character. Wonderful food wine.
