The Grape A rare delicious Rhone variety. Only 7 acres are planted in the entire Sonoma County AVA. It is most often found as a minor component of some Rhone blends. Frick Cinsaut is distinguished by being single vineyard grown in the Dry Creek Valley of Sonoma County. Characteristics of the grape are large olive shaped berries, lush sweet fruit flavors and soft tannin.
The Vineyard Red Bench Vineyard is located on the western bench of Dry Creek Valley, Here head pruned (not trellised) cinsaut vines grow in red, dusty clay non-irrigated (dry farmed) soil. Red Bench vineyard is a little over an acre of 65 year old cinsaut. Old dry farmed vines yield a small amount balanced, fruity grapes that are exclusively Frick Cinsaut
The Wine The original concept of a 100% varietal Cinsaut was pioneered by Frick in 1989. The fresh Cinsaut grape has a fruit character of cherry, strawberry, plum and raspberry that follows through in this wine. Vintage 2018 has complex earthy characteristics attributed to natural wild yeast fermentation. Sometimes described as "old world" style. Drink now to 2025.
