Tasting Notes: An eruption of earthy berry fruit and wafting rose blossom. Black currant, black plum, baking cocoa, wild herbs and spicy meat juices. Warm and haunting depth. Savory acidity makes for an appealing clean finish. Pretty darn good.

The Grape: Mourvèdre (moe-vehd) is a classic Rhône grape that produces nice medium to full bodied wines that are often used in blends. Late to bud and late to ripen this is often close to the the last that I harvest.

The Vineyard: Frick's Estate Owl Hill Vineyard, on the southeast-facing hillsides near the winery.  This tiny vineyard is composed of rock, gravel and clay from decomposed Dry Creek Conglomerate soil.  In this soil the vines have low vigor and produce limited amounts of grapes with distinctive, full, rich and classic varietal character. This block of the vineyard abuts the tasting room.

The Wine: Made from 100% Estate Mourvèdre. This one is large in style, but not overpowering. Every time I open a bottle I am enchanted.

Aged two years in neutral oak. Drink now to 2021. Only 117 cases produced.

Serve with: Savory spiced dishes. grilled chicken, polenta sticks, duck breast over lentils, potato vindaloo, grilled cumin spiced eggplant with couscous, mesquite charred prime rib eye
