Tasting Notes:Ā Brilliant garnet color. Warm smell of earth and red fruit. Complex flavors of fresh fruit, pomegranate, raspberry, grape, plum, apple and spice. Savory red fruits. Nice balance with good acid, light tannin. Tastes good. This is a complex and complete red wine.
Ā The Grapes:Ā This is a historic old vine field blend. Carignane, Grenache, Muscat Blanc, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Valdeque, Mission, Palomino and Burger are some of the varieties that make up this blend. No one grape accounts for more that 15% of this wine.
The Vineyard:Ā This is the oldest block of vines on the Frick Estate. Vines age to over 100 years. The block so tiny that it produces 1 barrel of wine. The vineyard is named Garibaldi to honor my wonderful mother-in-law Babe Garibaldi Gannon. Garibaldi is a rare example of a field blend with many varieties, red and white, mixed together in the same vineyard. My āmuseumā plot. Grapes are harvested and fermented together.
Ā The Wine:Ā A blend of the 2013 & 2014 vintages. Bright with a unique, complex fruit profile that is delicious. Aged in small oak casks.Ā
