Tasting Notes: Beautiful clear light amber color. Aromas of ripe apricot, flower blossom and oak. Rich flavors of apricot, pear, butterscotch and papaya. Crisp off-dry finish.
The Grape: Viognier is a delicate vine and does not produce big quantities. The fruit is small clustered with small, thin skinned transluscent berries.
The Vineyard: Frick's Estate Gannon Vineyard, on the south facing slope near the winery is good dirt for viognier. I planted this tiny vineyard in 1988 on decomposed Dry Creek Conglomerate soil. The vines have very low vigor and the grapes produced are full of classic viognier character. Production is always limited. This drought year of 2015 produced just 2 ½ barrels of wine.
The Wine: This drought vintage is a rich one. Fermented and aged in neutral oak barrels. Full bodied and flavorful. Off dry. The rich flavors are mouth filling round and complex.
