(Archive) SYRAH 2011 Estate Owl Hill Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley

$ 0.00

Tasting Notes:
 Berry floral aromas. Rose/violet, black currant, cherry, cinnamon. Full flavors reminiscent of cherry, strawberry, plum, cassis and black pepper with long lingering dry finish.

 The Grape: Syrah from Rhone River Valley of France. The grape is very dark in color, ripens mid season. When freshly crushed it often displays fruity floral bouquet fragrance. The vine can be vigorous so it benefits from growing on the rocky hillsides here at Frick.

The Vineyard: This wine is exclusively Frick Estate Owl Hill Vineyard. I planted the syrah here on the rocky hillside in 1988. This tiny vineyard’s soil is rocks, gravel and clay from decomposed a unique Dry Creek Conglomerate deposit. This soil stresses the vines to reduce vigor and produce a small crop with distinctive, full, rich and classic Northern Rhone character.

The Wine: Complex European in style with black fruit and dry tannin. Big and meaty with great fruit and balance. Vibrant now in it’s youth and will also age into more elegance.
