Tasting Notes: : Dark chocolate and plum aromas. Round flavors of red raspberry, savory thyme, black fig. and prune. Dry tannins.
The Grape: The grape was once very common in California with a large number of acres planted. But most of this variety was pulled out to replant to the now well know varieties. What’s left are special old vines that produce good wine. When production is kept low carignane stands on it’s own in a noble manner.
The Vineyard: Red Bench Vineyard.This grape grows on Eastern Dry Creek Valley Benchland that is above the valley floor featuring strong afternoon sun and good drainage. Red dusty soil contributes to a produce a complex classic carignane.
The Wine: A 100% carignane wine in not common. Here you will discover the intrigue of the carignane grape on its own. A unique, memorable character from this old classic grape.
