(Library) GARIBALDI Lot 6 Red Field Blend Estate Garibaldi Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley

$ 58.00

Tasting Notes: Brilliant dark garnet color. Aromatic cherry. Mouth filling French prune, caramel, black fig, cherry, cocoa. Rich warm dark dried fruits. Dusty dry lingering finish.

 The Grapes: This is a historic old vine field blend. Carignane, Muscat Blanc, Valdegué, Grenache, Zinfandel, Mission, Grenache Blanc, Duriff, Palomino, Burger and Mourvèdre are some of the varieties that make up this blend.

My mother in law Babe Garibaldi resting on a ladder by the wine press. The Vineyard: This is the oldest block of vines on the Frick Estate. Vines age to over 100 years. The block is so tiny that it produces  only 1 barrel of wine a year. The vineyard is named Garibaldi to honor my wonderful mother-in-law Babe Garibaldi Gannon. Garibaldi the wine is an example of a rare field blend containing many varieties, red and white, mixed together in the same vineyard. My “museum” plot. Grapes are harvested and fermented together.

The Wine: Truly small lot and special. This lot 6 was a ripe one with complex dark fruit character both fresh and dried fruit profile. A big wine that is big bodied and full of flavor. Drink now to 2027. Only 50 cases made.

 Serve with: Babe’s all-time favorite foods to cook and eat: grilled cheese  sandwich, zucchini frittata, spaghetti & red sauce, leg of lamb plugged with garlic minestrone soup, tuna melt, abalone and baked potato.
