Tasting Notes: : Expansive fruit aromas. Blackberry, Earthy fig, raspberry, prune and black tartan cherry. Solid long finish with dry tannins.
The Grape: The grape was once very common in California with a large number of acres planted. But most of this variety was pulled out to replant to the now well know varieties. What’s left are special old vines that produce good wine. When production is kept low carignane stands on it’s own in a noble manner. The variety is used as a versatile blender here at Frick to add complexity, acid, color and body to my C2 & C3.
The Vineyard: This wine grows on the Eastern Dry Creek Valley Benchland that is above the valley floor and offers good drainage. Red dusty soil contributes to a produce a complex classic carignane.
The Wine: 100% carignane wines are not common. But allow you to discover the intrigue of the carignane grape character in a pure form. Found in this wine is a unique, memorable flavor from an old classic grape. Drink now to 2027. Only 70 cases made.
